Sericin is a natural silk protein that surrounds fibroin fibres, obtained during the processing of mulberry silkworm cocoons. In cosmetics it acts as a natural film-forming ingredient that creates an invisible structure on the skin's surface, with an immediate tightening and smoothing effect. Rich in 18 amino acids (including serine, threonine, glycine), it penetrates the epidermis and strengthens the natural protective barrier while increasing hydration levels. It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, protecting the skin against oxidative stress and photoageing.
