What really works in this formula
Active ingredients selected by Christina cosmetologists — each with documented effectiveness in professional skin care.
Tranexamic Acid
Tranexamic Acid
Concentration
2-5% (cosmetics), 5% (peels)
Tranexamic acid is a synthetic analogue of the amino acid lysine, originally used in medicine as a drug to inhibit bleeding, which has found a breakthrough application in aesthetic dermatology. It works by inhibiting the plasminogen pathway in melanocytes, which is responsible for melanin overproduction after UV exposure. It effectively reduces melasma, chloasma (pregnancy-related discolouration), hormonal and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) — often where other brightening ingredients fail. It also acts anti-inflammatorily, so it works well in caring for skin with broken capillaries and a tendency to redness. Recommended for skin with hard-to-treat discolouration — a key active ingredient in Christina's Illustrious line.
ANTI-MELASMA
Clinical studies
3% tranexamic acid: 32% reduction in melasma over 12 weeks (Lee et al., 2016, n=37). Efficacy comparable to 4% hydroquinone without adverse effects.
Mechanism of action
It inhibits plasminogen in keratinocytes, blocking activation of the PAR-2 pathway and UV-induced overproduction of prostaglandins (PGE2) that stimulate melanogenesis. Anti-inflammatory.
Melatonin is a hormone naturally produced in the human body by the pineal gland, responsible for regulating the circadian rhythm and the process of falling asleep. In cosmetics, its strong antioxidant action is harnessed — it is one of the most powerful free-radical scavengers, working in both aqueous and lipid environments. It supports the skin's nighttime regeneration, when cell renewal processes are most intense, and synchronises the fibroblasts' work cycle with the natural circadian rhythm. It has been clinically proven that its use increases skin hydration, reduces wrinkles and improves skin density. An ideal ingredient for night creams for mature, tired skin exposed to environmental stress and photoaging.
NIGHT REGENERATION
Clinical studies
0.05% melatonin: 25% increase in hydration, 19% reduction in wrinkles over 12 weeks (Sundberg et al., 2016, n=38).
Mechanism of action
The most powerful known free-radical scavenger (ORAC ~5x retinol). It activates MT1/MT2 receptors in fibroblasts, synchronising the circadian rhythm of regeneration. It stimulates SOD, catalase and glutathione.
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is a water-soluble antioxidant essential to humans, regarded in cosmetics as the gold standard of brightening and anti-aging protection. It performs multiple functions: it strongly neutralizes free radicals, is an essential cofactor in collagen synthesis, inhibits melanin production in melanocytes and strengthens the action of UV filters. It has been clinically proven that, used regularly, it reduces wrinkles, evens out skin tone, brightens hyperpigmentation and restores a youthful glow to the complexion. The most effective forms are L-ascorbic acid (the strongest but unstable) and stable derivatives: Ascorbyl Glucoside, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate (THD) and magnesium ascorbyl phosphate. Ideal in the care of all skin types, especially dull, tired skin with photoaging and hyperpigmentation — best applied in the morning before an SPF cream.
Radiance
Clinical studies
10-15% L-ascorbic acid over 12 weeks: 16% increase in collagen, 26% reduction in wrinkles, 30% brightening of hyperpigmentation (Humbert et al., 2003, n=20).
Mechanism of action
A cofactor of the enzymes that hydroxylate proline and lysine in collagen synthesis (without vitamin C, collagen synthesis stops). It inhibits tyrosinase. Synergy with vitamin E and ferulic acid.
Concentration
5-10% (OTC), up to 70% (in-office treatments)
Glycolic acid is the smallest and most active of the AHA (alpha-hydroxy acids) group — thanks to its low molecular weight, it penetrates deep into the layers of the epidermis. Derived from sugar cane, it works by loosening the bonds between dead corneocytes, initiating the process of chemical exfoliation. It stimulates the synthesis of new collagen and accelerates cell renewal, thereby smoothing wrinkles, reducing hyperpigmentation, and improving skin texture. It effectively unclogs pores, reducing imperfections and blackheads, which is why it works well in the care of oily, problematic skin and skin with signs of photoaging. It requires the use of an SPF cream — it increases the skin's sensitivity to UV radiation.
Exfoliation
Clinical studies
10% glycolic acid over 12 weeks: a 30% reduction in wrinkles and a 27% increase in epidermal thickness (Bernstein et al., 2001).
Mechanism of action
Hydrolysis of desmosomal bonds between corneocytes by lowering pH. Stimulation of collagen synthesis through fibroblast activation.
Boosters — optional routine upgrades: exfoliation 1–2× a week, toner daily after cleansing, mask 1× a week, eye cream when you want to focus on the eye area.
All you need to know before buying and while using
When will I see the first results?
The first results (hydration, smoothing, a soothing effect) are visible within the first few days of use. Full corrective results (even skin tone, reduced wrinkles, regeneration) appear after 4–6 weeks of consistent care — in line with the skin's natural renewal cycle. You'll get the best results by following the complete line routine twice a day.
